Property Details
It’s modern but comfortable interior leads through large glazed doors into a private fenced patio equipped with a barbeque. This opens onto a large fenced paddock area with children’s play equipment and space for children to run around is safety while Mum and Dad enjoy a glass of wine on the patio.
The open plan kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher, cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and a dining table seating 6. The cottage has a travel cot, highchair and changing mat – other baby friendly extras can be book in advance. the living space has 2 comfortable sofas and is equipped with a widescreen TV, DVD player and iPod dock.
Woodpecker communicates with Swallow between the hallways for extended family get-togethers or friends’ reunions. Together the two cottages combine to sleep 11 with two travel cots. there is parking for one car outside the cottage, additional cars can use the North car park.
Woodpecker has been inspected by VisitEngland and awarded a 4 Star Gold. All our cottages have achieved the Visit England Gold Award for exceptional quality of accommodation in 2015/6

We try to engender a friendly laid- back feel to our place, where guests can come and go freely in the knowledge that if something goes wrong there is usually someone around to help. We do have a few rules in place as this makes for a better and safer experience for everyone. As a green business we believe that “less is more” however this should not mean fewer home comforts for our guests. We have done a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of energy & water management, however there is always more we can do, as there really is no plan B.
Please observe the following Property Rules before you book and during your stay:
- Check-in: After 16:00
- Check out: 10:00
- Self-check-in with lockbox
- No smoking in the cottages or on site.
- No parties or events
- Pets are not allowed on the main site. Up to 2 medium sized dogs are welcome to stay in End Cottage
- Pool rules must be observed. See our pool rules here
- Children must be supervised at all times
- No extra guests without permission.
- No noise outdoors or in the cottages or games room after 10.00pm
- No Fireworks Chinese lanterns or drones.
- No EV charging with a cable directly from the cottages
- Do not plug in heavy use external electrical items ie: air conditioning units or catering equipment. We have a 2-phase supply and this will overload our electrical supply!
- Please sort waste into household waste & recyclables before you throw.
- CCTV is in use in the car parking areas and pool Hall.
Another great Christmas in Tern, Swallow and Woodpecker Cottages. All very welcoming, warm and comfortable - everything we could need. Our Christmas dinner cooked in the Rayburn. All fantastic yet again!
This was our fourth visit to Cranmer. Every visit we have been impressed by the outstanding quality of accommodation, and the hard work that goes in behind the scenes by the Cranmer team to make guests feel welcomed. Cranmer is a very peaceful, pretty, relaxing place to stay with excellent facilities. We look forward to booking again for next year; our young sons have already been asking when we can go back! Just to let you know we have checked out of woodpecker now. We have had the most fantastic time and am sure we will be back. Thanks to everyone who works at Cranmer for all their hard work.
Beautiful countryside and close to beaches and lots of excursions for the small people. The swimming pool was a real gem as the weather was very hot. The paddock for the children to play safely in was a huge bonus. Perfection in every way
We have stayed at Cranmer every year for 10 years and have stayed in most of the cottages... Woodpecker is a smaller cottage but well equipped and comfortable with a handy extra bedroom. The water pressure and temperature was excellent so important after a rainy day at the beach. We ate in this year far more than usual and found the kitchen and appliances very easy.
We booked Garden House, Avocet & Woodpecker for a surprise birthday party for my son. It was such a brilliant weekend and I would like to thank you for recommending Susi; she was marvellous and the food was perfect. Hope to return to Cranmer Cottages in the near future and would thoroughly recommend them to everyone.
We loved our stay here with our sons and friends. The accommodation worked perfectly for us all. The games room and pool were a fab addition and meant you had options on site rather than going out. We would book again in the future
We very much enjoyed our stay in the lovely warm surroundings of Woodpecker Cottage. Heated pool absolute bliss for early morning swims with the added bonus of splendid views of extensive countryside through those huge windows. Thanks for a wonderful stay, we will be back soon.
